One of the most important medieval rulers of the 10th century, Otto I (936-973) founded the Holy Roman Empire in central Europe. Archaeologists believe they have found the site where this king and emperor died.

Through his marriages to Edith of the Anglo-Saxons and St. Adelaide, Otto is an ancestor of every European royal family many times over.

He is also a likely ancestor of most European people living today, as is his 3xgreat-grandfather Charlemagne.
